Building More Than a Machine: The Values Behind Beonyx

Share

Beonyx started with an ambitious challenge: find a way to transport people and payloads to places otherwise only accessible by foot. Building that solution has required more than engineering an advanced all-terrain vehicle. Co-founders Louis Déry and Michael Martel have also had to build a company that can make difficult decisions while adapting to what it learns.

Throughout it all, a clear purpose and a belief in respectful, transparent partnerships have guided Beonyx’s growth, and continue to shape what comes next.

A Purpose That Extends Beyond the Machine

For Beonyx, the B1 has never been an end in itself. Its value lies in the work it makes possible and the risks it can help people avoid.

“Our intention is to replace laborious and dangerous tasks for humans in difficult and demanding terrain,” Louis explains. “Our goal is to improve the platform to offer ever greater ease and safety in environments where other vehicles cannot go.”

This intention provides direction as Beonyx encounters new markets and applications. Opportunities are no longer evaluated solely by whether the B1 can support them, but by whether they advance its ability to solve meaningful operational problems.

Maintaining that focus still requires a willingness to adjust. Beonyx’s direction has become more precise as our founders learn from the people using (and advancing) autonomous technology.

“We always need to ask ourselves what our business model and our goal is,” Michael says. “Start-ups need to re-align depending on what is happening. It is impossible to know everything at the beginning.”

Two Founders with Different Roles and One Direction

Louis and Michael approach leadership differently, allowing each founder to contribute where he is strongest.

“I am an introvert and prefer to be in front of my computer and do programming. Louis is a people person. He is out there communicating our story and sharing the machine,” Michael explains. “It is an excellent complementary partnership. We are complete as a management team together.”

Their distinct roles have shaped a culture in which no one is expected to have all the answers. Instead, Beonyx looks for people who bring strong abilities, challenge established thinking, and are committed to the same outcome.

Why Better Partnerships Produce Better Autonomous Solutions

This approach is especially valuable when combining hardware and software. Beonyx has developed a robust physical platform capable of operating in the world’s harshest terrain, while our technology partners provide the systems needed for the B1 to navigate and perform tasks autonomously.

Bringing those capabilities together requires a genuine appreciation for the knowledge each partner brings. When every team’s expertise is recognized and ideas are exchanged openly, we can solve more challenges and develop solutions that are stronger as a whole.

As Louis put it, “When collaboration fosters respectful and transparent exchange, human ingenuity flourishes, leading to ever more innovative solutions. This is the Beonyx culture.”

We believe the strongest partnership isn’t the one that allows a single company to claim the greatest share of the value. It’s the one that leads to a solution more capable than anything each partner could’ve created on their own.

“I think we can reach much better results and do it faster if we become true partners than to try to do things alone,” Michael says. This principle will remain central as Beonyx enters its next stage. We’re committed to advancing the B1, but our larger ambition depends on building relationships with partners who share the same focus, respect for discipline, and desire to turn Canadian autonomous innovation into resilient, field-ready solutions.
