Canada is increasing its focus on Arctic defense and has announced new investments to strengthen surveillance and operations across the region. As noted in a recent Radio-Canada report, the Arctic’s size and conditions present significant challenges, including extreme cold that impacts mechanical systems, unreliable communication signals, and limited infrastructure.

Ongoing field testing, including recent trials conducted in temperatures as low as -35°C as part of Operation Nanook, is pushing Canadian-built technologies to operate in real conditions. There’s a need for domestic solutions that can be adapted and deployed for Canada’s unique terrain. As defense priorities evolve, real-world performance will define which technologies can operate reliably at scale. For Beonyx, this reinforces a clear direction. As we shift our priority to high-risk and military applications, the B1 is being developed and refined in similar challenging environments, ensuring it’s not only designed for these conditions but also proven to perform in them.

As Beonyx narrows its focus to high-stakes environments, the B1 is evolving to match. In these conditions, performance depends on more than just capability. Early deployments proved what the platform could do, but also highlighted how control and visibility needed to work together more seamlessly in the field.

This is how we’ve come to redefine operational control. The B1 is now engineered as a fully integrated system, merging a single control interface, faster system setup, and built-in performance monitoring into one platform. Instead of using separate tools, operators can work within a cohesive platform, making it easier to deploy and operate the B1 in real-world conditions.

Switching Control Without Interrupting the Operation

The B1 is built around a unified control architecture that connects onboard driving, remote control, and AI-assisted operation within a single interface. Operators can transition between modes instantly without reconfiguring the system.

This allows teams to adjust how the vehicle is controlled based on the situation. A route can start with navigating terrain directly and transition to remote operation in high-risk areas or use assisted functions for repeatable tasks.

The B1’s responsiveness removes the need to manage and switch between different systems. Control is continuous rather than segmented.

Deploying Advanced Systems in Minutes, Not Hours

Flexible control is only useful if it can be implemented quickly. The B1 can integrate remote systems in as little as 15 minutes, enabling teams to activate new capacities directly in the field. There’s no need for extended setup or specialized support.

Speed has direct operation impact. For teams operating in defense, emergency response, or remote environments, the B1’s abilities can reduce delays between arrival and operation. Systems can be configured onsite and adjusted as conditions change, without disrupting workflow.

This approach reflects a broader shift in the future of mobility: control systems are no longer treated as add-ons. They’re part of the platform from the start, designed for immediate use.

Turning Data into Real-Time Operational Insight

Control isn’t enough without visibility. The B1 offers continuous insight into how its performing. Its fleet management system tracks key metrics, such as:

Speed

Voltage

Temperature

Battery usage

This data is available in real time and remains accessible after deployment, even in remote, offline conditions. This creates a feedback loop that informs future missions, maintenance, and system optimization.

This information is especially important for energy management. By understanding how power is used across different terrains and workloads, teams can extend operational time and reduce inefficiencies to plan deployments more effectively. Instead of reacting to issues, operators can anticipate them.

Extending Range Through Flexible Energy Options

Operational reach is often limited by energy constraints. The B1 addresses this with its hybrid configurations and range extenders, which support longer use in environments with limited access to charging infrastructure. Teams can maintain operations with less downtime.

Even more, Beonyx engineers are currently developing adaptable fuel systems that can operate with multiple energy sources, including:

Diesel

Propane

Natural gas

Non-pressurized hydrogen

This will offer teams more flexibility in how they power the vehicle, depending on availability and mission requirements, while maintaining performance.

Built and Tested for Real Conditions

Reliability needs to hold under real conditions. The B1 has been built and validated through years of field testing, including in extreme low-temperature environments that challenge mechanical and electrical performance. From steep terrain at sites like Empire 47 to emergency response scenarios such as Mont-Sainte-Anne, the platform has proven its ability to excel when conditions are unpredictable and pressure is high. As we move into an 80/20 focus on high-risk and military applications, real-world use and client needs will continue to shape how the B1 is refined, ensuring it remains scalable and rapidly deployable in the environments it is designed for.

In the last year, Beonyx has moved from testing where the B1 can operate to defining where it should. What started as a broad, multi-industry exploration has evolved into a more focused, performance-driven strategy. Through deployments across tourism, infrastructure, emergency response, and defense, our team has identified where the platform delivers the most value and we’re letting it guide our next steps.

Beonyx is now aligning with an intentional 80/20 model, with 80% of our focus on military and defense applications, and 20% on civilian use cases that share operational demands. This isn’t a change in direction, but rather a refinement based on what the B1 is proven, positioning it as one of the most advanced Canadian technologies available for demanding operations.

From Multi-Industry Exploration to Performance-Based Clarity

Early deployments were designed to test the B1 across a wide range of conditions. It was used to transport people across mountainous terrain at sites like Empire 47, support infrastructure work in remote locations, and assist in emergency response scenarios such as Mont-Sainte-Anne, where access and control are critical.

Each environment tested a different aspect of the platform, including:

Stability under heavy loads

Adaption across diverse tasks

Traction on uneven terrain

Ability to operate without infrastructure

The results were consistent. The B1 performed exceptionally across industries, with its advantages becoming more apparent as conditions grew more complex. In predictable environments, it improved efficiency. In unstable environments, it enabled operations that would otherwise be difficult or impossible, proving to be of critical value.

Why The Focus on High-Stakes Environments

The B1’s ability to excel in challenging environments isn’t incidental. It’s exactly what the vehicle was designed for.

The B1 was built for terrain where traditional vehicles lose reliability, from steep slopes and soft ground to areas without defined access routes. Its 8×8 system is supported by a patented rocker-arm suspension, which keeps all eight wheels in continuous contact with the ground, maintaining traction under load.

Unlike other off-road vehicles that rely on braking to steer or distribute power unevenly, the B1 uses articulated steering to maintain full traction at all times. This allows it to move more consistently across uneven terrain without sacrificing control or energy efficiency.

With an ultra-low center of gravity and the ability to operate on slopes up to 35° laterally and up to 50° frontally, the vehicle stays stable in conditions where tipping risk and loss of control usually limit access.

These capabilities are delivered through a single integrated platform. Control modes, system deployment, and performance monitoring are all built into a single interface. Teams can manage operations in one place, switch between onboard, remote, and AI-assisted modes, and make changes in the field without add-ons or reconfiguration.

In situations where access is limited and maintaining control is crucial, the B1 performs at its highest level and has the greatest operational impact, informing our new focus.

What This Shift Changes for Deployment and Adoption

This shift is already changing how the B1 is deployed. Instead of positioning the platform across a broad range of industries, we’re homed in on clearly defined operational use cases.

This has clear strategic benefits. For customers, it removes ambiguity. The B1 is no longer presented as a flexible option, but as a solution for specific challenges that have already been extensively validated in the field. This clarity is already leading to more targeted adoption, as teams can better identify where the B1 fits in with operations.

For Beonyx, it creates a more efficient path for scaling. Development is focused on a narrower set of requirements, deployments are more targeted, and partnerships are built around clearly defined operational needs.

What This Means for the Next Phase of Beonyx

Our transition from exploration to precision is reshaping how the B1 evolves. Now, each improvement responds to the clear, measurable demands of high-stakes environments. This means refining control systems, expanding energy capabilities, and strengthening integration with remote and autonomous operation, improvements that directly reflect field use.

At the same time, the platform’s modular design ensures these advancements extend beyond defense. Civilian applications that operate under similar constraints will continue to benefit from the same engineering improvements. We’re no longer exploring where the B1 fits. We’re building from a position of clarity, focused on where it performs best and scaling from there.

Beonyx has spent the last year proving its performance, but as the company moves into its next phase of expansion, one of the challenges is scaling its team. With interest growing across sectors, including defense, civil security, and local municipalities, our growth depends on building new partnerships to advance the mission.

To keep up, Beonyx has brought on two new leaders: Sylvain Bedard, Vice President of Development Affairs, and Philippe Gaumond, Director of Financial Strategy. Together, they bring deep experience in military operations and hard-tech scaling, a skill set that will turn our real-world traction into sustainable momentum.

We recently spoke with both leaders to better understand their vision for Beonyx, why they joined the team, and how they’re shaping the company’s next chapter, from establishing operational readiness to earning long-term trust from our partners, investors, and customers.

A Platform Built for Real Impact

Having served in the Canadian Forces for nearly three decades, including deployments in Afghanistan, the Sinai Desert, and the Balkans, Sylvain Bedard has a frontline perspective that will be valuable in breaking into new industries.

“I’ve seen how rapidly evolving threats, an unpredictable international system, and challenging operating environments, such as the Arctic, demand versatile and resilient solutions,” he says.

Beonyx’s all-electric, all-terrain platform, including its AI-enabled control architecture and modular payload design, immediately resonated with Bedard. “The Beonyx platform… represents exactly the kind of innovation that can make a tangible difference in both military and civilian contexts,” he emphasizes.

His decision to join Beonyx was equally strategic, and he explained, “I was drawn to join at this critical stage to contribute directly to the final development and deployment, ensuring this capability reaches NATO allies, strategic industries, and remote communities where it can have the greatest operational impact.”

Engineering Growth with Financial Precision

Philippe Gaumond brings a sharp eye for execution to our company. “Over the past few years, I’ve supported more than 35 hardtech startups across Québec and Canada, working at the intersection of financing, structuring, and execution,” he shares. Now, his focus is helping Beonyx accelerate growth without sacrificing rigor.

“The priority is building strong foundations that support scale — not only from a technology standpoint but also commercially, financially, and operationally,” Gaumond says. “The second priority is securing the right financial partners: people who believe in the founders’ vision… and understand the full potential of the B1.”

He adds that trust is earned through transparency and proof. “With the B1 platform, seeing it in action – and experiencing it – is what creates conviction. My role is to help translate Beonyx’s vision into concrete proof points for the product and the team’s ability to execute.”

Experience with Edge and Passion

Bedard’s path from military service to defense innovation gives him an edge in procurement and deployment. “Post-military, I translated civilian vehicles into operational systems, gaining expertise in innovation integration and rapid capability adaptation,” he notes.

“This combination of operational insight, commercial experience, and hands-on innovation positions me to help Beonyx accelerate deployment, scale effectively, and deliver meaningful results where it matters most,” Bedard continues.

But it’s the opportunity to make a lasting impact that excites him most. “I am passionate about facilitating the work of defense and security professionals… At the same time, the platform’s ability to provide clean, green solutions across multiple industries presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate how Canadian innovation can solve complex challenges beyond the military domain.”

Leadership That Knows (and Can Achieve) the Mission

Beonyx has moved beyond validating its capabilities and is focused on building the system to scale. That’s where leadership like Bedard and Gaumond’s becomes so important.

In their own words, the mission is clear: “Beonyx is pioneering versatile, all-electric, AI-enabled platforms that transform operational capability, deliver sustainable solutions, and create lasting value,” Bedard says.

“Beonyx is building a future that refuses to compromise on modular, AI-ready, all-terrain electric mobility that can operate where it matters most,” Gaumond adds. The arrival of our latest team members represents more than a shift in titles; it reflects our broader commitment to growing with focus, building trust, and ensuring Beonyx’s long-term vision is backed by the leadership capable of achieving it.

At Beonyx, performance isn’t just about what a machine can do. It’s also about where it can take us. In environments where traditional vehicles stall or fail, we designed the B1 to go further: carry heavier loads, navigate more demanding terrain, and adapt to challenges without compromising safety or sustainability. We’ve seen the B1 prove itself on the field time and again, leading to its next phase of commercialization.

Our commitment is reflected in the Beonyx brand philosophy: The Power to Trek Beyond. But what does “beyond” mean in the context of off-road innovation? To explore that question, we sat down with Beonyx co-founders Louis Déry and Michael Martel to learn more about how Beonyx came to life and where it’s headed next.

From Naming to Need: A Philosophy in Action

Beonyx didn’t come from theory. It was built to address real-world gaps the co-founders observed in the mobility market. “Vehicles currently on the market are too big, too wide, too slow, and not powerful enough to carry heavy loads at reasonable speeds,” Déry says.

“In addition to being ‘polluting, noisy, and lacking traction in demanding environments,’ they’re difficult to make autonomous because they weren’t designed for that purpose in the first place,” he continues.

Beonyx was created to offer a solution that’s not only more efficient but also more intelligent and adaptable, a quality reflected in the brand’s name. “The primary meaning of Beonyx is to be the benchmark for strength, safety, and stability in demanding environments,” Déry explains. “Onyx, this precious stone, represents strength, protection, and stability. Our goal is to be that strong company with a solution that offers more than currently available tools.”

This guiding principle has shaped the company’s mission and the product itself. As Déry says: “We want our customers to find in our vehicle the tool to improve their employees’ safety at work, productivity, and profitability. We want to make a difference and exceed their expectations. That’s the entire Beonyx philosophy.”

Smart Engineering That Adapts and Evolves

Turning the vision into a functional reality falls to Martel, who designed the B1 with a primary principle in mind: flexibility. “What makes the B1 fundamentally different is its modularity,” he explains. “You can design a completely different machine – longer, wider, higher – and it can adapt extremely quickly to different applications.”

That adaptability enables the B1 to support a wide range of use cases, from transporting tourists across mountainous terrain to supporting airfield maintenance and defense operations.

Equally important, the vehicle can operate in multiple control modes: onboard, remote, and AI-integrated. “Normally, machines that are remotely controlled are only remotely controlled,” Martel says. “But we can drive it onboard, remotely control it, or integrate AI very easily.”

Martel describes the machine as a “Lego block,” designed to adapt to client needs. Additions such as attachments, payload modules, and advanced controls don’t require re-engineering. “Most modifications are low-cost and don’t disrupt our production,” he says.

Inspired By Nature, Tested in Nature

The B1’s design was largely inspired by nature. “The way the wheels move up and down and the frame flexes left and right – that’s really inspired by animals,” Martel explains. “Like a leg or arm moving with the terrain. We do the same thing.”

This approach ensures smoother movement, better grip, and minimal environmental impact, a rare combination for off-road vehicles. “Each wheel grabs the ground at the same pace. You never see one spinning,” Martel adds. “It’s quiet, low-impact, and safe.”

Developed in Quebec, the B1 is built to handle a full range of extreme environments, from -40°C winters to humid summer heat. “The battery heats itself, the cables stay flexible, and the tracks work in every condition we’ve encountered,” Martel says. “That’s a big advantage of designing here. We’re building for reality.”

What’s Next: Smart Scaling and Showing Capability

As the B1 enters commercialization, Beonyx is preparing to showcase the innovations that make it uniquely capable. A new Capabilities Series will offer deeper insight into the features customers often ask about, including control systems, bionic structure, and upcoming energy integrations.

One highlight Martel is excited to share more about is the integration of fuel cell technology.

“They convert propane or hydrogen into electricity with no noise, no moving parts, and practically no pollution,” he says. “We can reduce battery size, lower costs, and extend autonomy. It’s a huge step forward.”

From its name to its engineering, Beonyx was created to challenge assumptions about what mobility can look like. It’s not just an electric off-road vehicle. It’s a platform designed to solve real problems where reliability and safety are paramount. Whether used for tourism, logistics, defense, or another industry, the B1 isn’t just built to perform. It’s built to evolve, and in doing so, it’s redefining the standard for what an all-terrain machine should be.

When the 30th edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup arrived at Mont-Sainte-Anne this fall, the B1 had an opportunity unlike any before: to serve as the official emergency extraction vehicle on one of the toughest mountain courses in the world. The event didn’t just test capability; it became a real-time demonstration of what the B1 can do in situations where every second matters.

A New Challenge, Made Possible by the Community

The collaboration started earlier in September at the Mountain Bike Symposium in Beaupré, where the Beonyx team presented the B1 to key industry leaders. Among them was Serge Veuthey, owner of VéloSolutions, whose connections opened the door for the B1’s use during the World Cup.

As Beonyx co-founder Louis Déry explains, “Mr. Veuthey, through his contacts and vision, paved the way for a new Beonyx experience: rescue in challenging environments.”

A Machine Built for Situations Where Others Can’t Go

Once the event was underway, the B1 quickly demonstrated why it was chosen. Over the weekend, it completed more than 10 extractions and transported medical personnel between the summit and the base of the mountain, reaching areas inaccessible to traditional all-terrain vehicles. In several instances, it carried two injured riders at once while keeping medical staff securely positioned to provide care during transport.

Louis recalls the feeling of seeing the B1 perform real rescues: “A great sense of pride, having a safe, reliable, and powerful solution that saves lives in environments inaccessible to current vehicles.”

This performance is rooted in engineering. B1’s patented eight-wheel system maintains full ground contact, improving stability on uneven slopes. Combined with its articulated steering and ability to dedicate all power to traction, the vehicle can climb 40-degree inclines while carrying loads exceeding 2,000 lbs.

As Louis notes, the emergency response team and QTM CEO Jean Fortier described the B1 as “a game changer,” with comfort and climbing power repeatedly cited as key strengths.

Versatility That Opens New Markets

Beyond just extractions, the B1 also proved its worth by quickly transporting medics, support teams, and their equipment across the course. Its modular design allowed for seamless shifts between personnel transport and rescue missions, demonstrating how its usefulness extends well beyond mountain biking.

Operators in parks, ski patrols, hiking areas, and mountain safety teams can all benefit from a vehicle capable of providing medical support in places where elevation or terrain make traditional vehicles unreliable.

At the OXIO Village, visitors had the chance to see the B1 up close. These interactions gave our team clear insight into how people perceive its value. “We go beyond what the market currently offers, all with greater comfort and safety,” Louis says. “In addition to all these capabilities, we can be remotely controlled and even autonomous for certain needs.”

Real Feedback That Inspires Real Innovation

Working alongside rescue teams has also sparked new design ideas. One challenge was how to transport more people on the machine when no injured riders were onboard. After seeing responders use the stabilizing board as an impromptu backrest, Beonyx co-founder Michael Martel and the rescue team proposed developing a convertible plank-and-seat system that could switch between passenger seating and stretcher support in seconds.

As Michael says, “Feedback from people who use the vehicle is invaluable… they are best placed to work with us on improvements.”

With commercialization on the horizon, Beonyx is targeting sectors such as adventure tourism, ski patrol, mountain security, and remote environmental operations, where the B1 can help people reach places they otherwise couldn’t, whether for work, rescue, or exploration.

“Imagine all the landscapes inaccessible to people who lack the desire or ability to reach Quebec’s most beautiful viewpoints… B1 will be there to help them,” Louis highlights. The Mont-Sainte-Anne weekend didn’t just prove what the B1 can do. It showed what the future could look like.

This year marked a significant chapter for Beonyx. What was once a bold idea has become a tested solution shaped not only by engineering but also by the partners, advisors, and supporters who helped the B1 develop every step of the way.

As 2025 comes to an end, co-founders Louis Déry and Michael Martel reflect on the milestones and relationships that brought the company to this point, as well as the opportunities waiting in the next stage of growth.

A Year That Proved the Vision

Looking back, Louis describes the past year as a turning point: “2025 was a year of market exploration and technological refinement. We got the answers we needed and are very pleased with the goals we achieved.”

This clarity came directly from the field. Whether hauling equipment through remote wooded regions, transporting riders up steep mountain trails, or supporting municipal teams during all-season operations, the B1 repeatedly proved what sets it apart: safety and strength where other vehicles fail.

This year’s deployments reinforced our company’s core mission. As Louis explains, Beonyx’s purpose is simple: to provide sustainable, affordable transportation solutions for the most challenging terrains.

How Partnerships Sharpened the Machine

If there was a theme that defined Beonyx’s growth in 2025, it was collaboration. Partnerships didn’t just accelerate progress; they helped identify where the B1 can deliver the most value.

Louis states it clearly: “Working as a team allows us to progress more quickly… Everyone’s strengths are leveraged, and the overall motivation creates momentum that propels us forward.”

“Partnerships have allowed us to target markets where our machine can make a greater difference,” he continues.

These insights came from real-world testing:

Empire 47, where the B1 climbed 230-meter mountain trails while carrying riders, bikes, and gear, demonstrating its unmatched load stability, comfort, and traction.

Municipal partners who utilized the B1 in urban areas where conventional ATVs struggle.

Military and outdoor recreation operators who validated the machine’s smooth ride, braking precision, cornering accuracy, and more.

Each environment pushed the B1 to evolve, enhancing its real-world performance and shaping its path toward commercialization.

Mont-X’s Influence on Beonyx’s Trajectory

Laurentian-based start-up incubator, Mont-X, played an especially defining role in Beonyx’s year. Their mentorship provided more than just guidance; it helped Beonyx grow faster and further.

As Louis explains, “Mont X and Mt Lab were catalysts for our project… They opened doors for us that would sometimes have taken much longer to open under normal circumstances.”

Mont-X and MTLab connected Beonyx with strategic partners, industry leaders, and a network that helped validate operational use cases. “The synergy between the incubated companies motivates us and allows us to share our challenges,” Michael continues. “We learn as much from the other companies participating in the program as from the mentors.”

This ecosystem helped Beonyx refine its business model and pressure-test its strategy, ultimately positioning the B1 within high-value markets long before entering its funding round.

A Partnership That Redefined Innovation

Some collaborations had unexpected effects, and none more than Beonyx’s early work with Tessellate Robotics.

Louis recalls: “It was surprising to see how much our collaboration would propel us both forward. This is still the case today.”

Both teams were tackling harsh-terrain challenges from different perspectives. Our initial discussions helped refine the B1’s performance criteria and highlighted the need for a machine capable of operating in challenging environments. This shared insight still influences Beonyx’s product roadmap today.

Staying True to the Mission While Expanding

As Beonyx enters a funding round and prepares for its first large-scale production runs, the founders see this next chapter as both exciting and demanding.

“It’s both a personal and professional challenge,” Louis says. “I simply want to make the best choices for healthy growth.”

Michael adds, “More than money, reaching hundreds of units sold of an innovative and useful product has always been a dream for me.”

Scaling isn’t about speed; it’s about intention. Beonyx is currently evaluating manufacturing models and strengthening engineering capacity, while choosing partners that align with our company’s long-term vision.

While growth brings opportunity, it can also bring distraction. Louis acknowledges the challenge all start-ups face: allocating time and resources wisely. Michael echoes this philosophy: “The key is to say no to any opportunity that isn’t aligned with our initial vision.”

Looking Ahead to 2026 and Inviting Others In

2026 is set to be Beonyx’s transition into commercialization. As Louis explains, “We will finalize large-scale production… and target markets in telecommunications (mobile power packs), the military, civil security, and tourism.”

In anticipation of this transition, Louis spoke at the panel titled “Innovating in Product Development in Quebec: From The Workshop to The Market,” organized on November 26 by Mont-X. This event focused on how start-up companies can communicate their objectives and build trust as they grow. There, he emphasized a core principle that has guided Beonyx from the beginning: innovation accelerates when customers are involved in the process.

As he said to the audience, “Your customers provide ideas for improvement that we would never have thought of.”

This mindset goes beyond testing. It’s the foundation for the community Beonyx hopes to build. As Louis stresses, “We are open to constructive ideas and appreciate the help and support of the community.” What started as a dream has grown into a movement, shaped by every person who believed in our mission from the beginning. The next chapter is bigger than the machine itself. It’s a community effort, and we’re only getting started.
